Environmental Information
With the recent gas and electric price
rises, firewood is an economical way to heat
your home or business and represents a major
source of renewable energy.
All firewood produced by South West Firewood
originates from renewable and sustainable
sources as part of local forestry management
programmes which provide benefits to
wildlife and the environment.
Our timber is sourced from established
hardwood merchants based in Scotland and the
North of England and is not transported over
long distances.
Wood is said to be carbon neutral. When wood
is burned in the presence of oxygen it
produces carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is
one of the main greenhouse gases responsible
for climate change, however the amount of
carbon dioxide released is no greater than
the amount absorbed by the tree when it is
growing.
Even allowing for emissions of C02 in
planting, harvesting, processing and
transporting the fuel, replacing fossil fuel
energy with wood will significantly reduce
net CO2 emissions.
